It is really rare to hear a natural curly hair girl saying :-“My hair is so oily”-, but it does happen, and in response to one of my readers, I am doing this post that may not be so popular due to the lack of curly girls with Oily scalp or hair. This cause and Remedy works for any tipe of hair….
- Use shampoos for oily hair. More products are becoming available on the market that target an oily scalp while not drying out the rest of your hair. The key to controlling oily hair is to keep the PH balance correct with the right shampoo, and remove the sebum adequately from your scalp. To do this you need a shampoo that will tell you when this has been accomplished. A sulfate free shampoo will not foam when it is removing large amounts of sebum. It will only foam when you have removed everything that needs to be removed. If you have long hair you should apply the shampoo to the scalp without piling…
- Shop for products that are mild and have amino acids or natural cleansers. Avoid oily styling products, and apply these only to the ends of your hair.
- Make a home remedy by mixing mouthwash and an astringent like witch hazel. Using a cotton ball, apply this mixture to your scalp two times a week prior to shampooing.
- Switch shampoos if you don’t notice improvement. Even with an oily scalp, shampooing may not be necessary daily. Try an every-other-day routine to see if you notice a reduction in oil. Shampooing too frequently and overly hot water will dry out your scalp. This will cause our oil glands to compensate by overreacting and producing more oil.
- Conditioners often add oils to soften the hair. If you have to use one, only condition the ends of your hair.
Dr. Kari recommendation:
Find products that have the ingredients Jojoba Oil, Tea tree oil and Eucalyptus. All of these ingredients are excellent for regulating the overproduction of sebum (which is the cause of her oily scalp triggered by a hormonal imbalance or using too much of the wrong product.)
Eden Bodyworks just released their new Jojoba Monoi line which is excellent for regulating the oil your scalp is producing. It also strengthens the hair and prevents breakage. She can also try using one of the pure essential oils listed above.
