Even before I stop relaxing and hear about the Brazilian Blowout, I knew something was not right about it..
BThe maker of Brazilian Blowout, a popular line of hair-straightening treatments used in salons, has agreed to warn consumers and hairstylists that two of its products emit formaldehyde gas, California’s attorney general said on Monday.
The company also agreed to pay $600,000 in penalties and fines for failing to inform consumers that a chemical in its products can cause cancer. Formaldehyde — the stuff that’s also used in embalming fluid — is a known carcinogen. (It’s used in hair products because it helps bind keratin to hair, straightening it.)
Brazilian Blowout Acai Smoothing Solution and Brazilian Blowout Professional Smoothing Solution were being sold as “formaldehyde free,” but both products release formaldehyde into the air when used according to the instructions.
I say it all the time, but just in case you miss it, Moisture is the key to healthy, shinny natural hair, it doesn't really matter if you use the perfect styling product, you still need a good daily moisturize to keep your curls alive.
Can you use the same styling products as a daily moisturize? Sure you can, in my particular case I don't like to do it because I feel it is too much and weight down my curls instead I like to use a light but effective moisturize, I personally tried every one of this moisturizer both as an styling products and daily moisturize, some of them works great for styling and some don't, but every single one works perfectly as a daily moisturizer,, you can use it along or mix it in your spray water bottle.

I love the freedom of Natural hair, and the diversity of style you can get, I been dye my hair with henna for a few month now and a high light and a hair color change cross my mine; After a few minutes thinking, more than moth....yes I had this idea for months now......I call a hair stylist, and ohh my surprise her answer was that she can't guaranty a hair color after henna, because she had bad result on client after using henna....
Most brands (commercial grade) of henna have metalic compunds in them that react to chemicals in regular hair dye. Our hair has 3 Layers Medulla,Cortex, and Cuticle Henna is A Vegetable Dye if you used the Henna Than it has Penetrate the Cortex of the Hair and Build up. When this happens The Color is Permanent since the molecules are anchored in the cortex... In addition, if a henna product contains metals, the product may react strongly with other chemicals used in salon services.Since there is not a reliable product available to completely remove henna from the hair it is usually best to wait until the hair has grown out to perform a chemical service at home or Salon...
Henna and Chemical Hair dye don't usually match, if mixed together they can sometimes cause adverse reactions on the hair. The best idea is to do a test strand to determine if your hair can accept the chemical dye properly. Find a place in your hair that is not very noticeable, like around the back of your head you can cut a little piece of hair out and make sure that it is big enough to see the reaction but small enough that you do not notice it . This piece needs to be about the full length of your hair, not just the ends. Mix the chemical color dye and put it onto the test strand. Let it process for recommended time.
If after rinse, dry and look if the result were what you looking for and no bad reaction while processing then you are ready to dye your hair..
In my case I didn't cut any strand of my hair, OFCOURSE, never ever, lol... I am not doing the high light myself, but I am not going to a hair salon to pay for a test that I can do my self, I went to the beauty supply and got my supplies for around $5.00

Is very common that we buy a comb or other tool and we forget to replace it or change it when they are not in very condition..I buy a tangle teezer at the beginning of my journey and even though it didn't look bad by just look at it, I felt it wasn't doing the great job it used to, the problem... the bristle were ruin... it is also very important to clean our comb and brushes because they accumulate death skin as well as dust, bacteria and even parasite that can damage our hair..
You can use an old tooth brush to gently clean your combs and brushes with shampoo or even alcohol if it was used by someone else.
A comb or brush in bad condition can pull out you hair and cause hair loss.
If any of your combs look like any one of these, maybe is time to get a new one.. :)
As more and more Latinas are stopping relaxing their hair and opting to wear our hair Al Natural the word PAJON is more present than ever....
But What is a Pajón anyway?
Pajón
pajón is a Thick high cane landsthat have been stubble.
Pajón flower
Pajón is a very popular word in Dominican Republic referring to Big Afro, usually not in a good way, when a Dominican said you got a Pajón it means you need to go to the hair salon now, hhahhaha....
this is a Pajón
As many Dominicans like myself are decided to embraced out natural, curly hair we are using many word from the Dominican slang, like Pajón, I guess is our way to say that is ok to have a Pajón, this is our hair and we like it, love it and care for it... I♥my pajon yo ♥ mi pajon
I am struggling my self to maintain a healthy body to match my beautiful hair, so I ask an expert for some help, her name is Hilary and she is the best in this area, she has change her body drastically and has beautiful curly hair .. here are her advise to all of us..
A New Year, A New You! Right? Seems like we hear this so often. We turn the TV on and see a new diet, a new pill, a new celebrity affiliated with a weight loss regimen, or a new weight loss book. We declare and promise that this year will be the year that we wear a long awaited outfit or swimsuit. We dig into our pockets and spend MORE money on new fitness gear, diet foods, and diet pills…hoping that THIS will be the thing that works. We vow to change our bodies enough that we will finally dress how we WANT to dress instead of how we NEED to dress. We state that we will stop being the largest person in the room. Is it our bodies that need to change or our minds? Once I changed my own mind, I found myself with a fresh sense of confidence and almost 30 pounds lighter (as you see in the picture where I was at my heaviest- 170)
The right mindset, activity, and support will create a healthier and happier individual. The right mindset began with me realizing that my intentions are powerful. I was created with a purpose, and part of that purpose is for me to know I am exactly how I am supposed to be. What I choose to gain is a healthy lifestyle comprised of daily decisions to make as many good choices as possible. There’s no room for criticism, rather the thankfulness of a new day to begin again.
“Exercise” may sound like a curse word to some of us, so let’s rename it “activity”. Activity has the ability to etch into our lives without much thought. Here are certain ways I began: Parking farther away when I arrived at work, taking the stairs, taking a walk while on the phone, tightening my abs and butt while sitting in the car, lifting weights and doing some crunches while watching TV shows. You can also start with an activity you’re comfortable with. It’s all do-able. No pills needed to change your old habits and modify the old you.
In terms of support, look no further. I have a positive Facebook health support group of like-minded people who receive encouragement and motivate one another. Members in the health support group have changed old habits, lost weight, begun or continued to run marathons, completed a workout program, tried healthy recipes, experimented with new foods, and rubbed off on friends and family. We constantly change up our environment, job, and responsibilities; so our healthy lifestyle must adapt with us. We need each other to share what works, what doesn’t work, triumphs, and frustrations. As a free Beachbody coach, I’m able to help others (myself included) to use this New Year as an opportunity to change our mindsets; our bodies will show the effects of this change.
I went to a group of women this weekend and I must say I was pretty impressed with the speaker, Carolina Fernandez a very powerful woman with a non traditional way to speak and let women understand our true potential as woman, She teaches in a high school Teen Mothers program and is co-founder of Wow Masntermind Circles and of Lovers For Ever.
well , I wanna share with you some Technic that can and will help us keep on track of our goals for this new year and for life, You can apply this Technic for your hair goals and pretty much any aspect of your life.
In Short term goals is very important that we first answer these simple questions..
What is your Dream for this year?
Are you ready to commit to make this a reality?
What is your strategic plan and specific goals?
What will you quit doing to get to your goal?
What accountability structure will you have in place?
Who will be your support team?
then write your specific goals for this year base in this criteria.
Physical
Family
Emotional
Mental
Spirituality
Professional
Finance
Relationship
It is quite important and helpful if you evaluate how your are right now in every criteria to start working on those who need it the most.
Please remember that your goal needs to be Smart
S-specific
M- measurable
A- attainable
R- realistic
T- time sensitive
She mentioned something that I love and I will start working on it today she called it a Dream Board
and is just make a board with all the things you want to accomplish in life, based on DO-HAVE - BE.
Mine is empty right now, but soon it will be full of pictures of places and things I want in life.
I got a relaxer when I was 15 as my quinceañera birthday present, I didn't get a big party, but I got a relaxer there was nothing bigger and most important than that, right? I was so happy, my hair was long, black and of course and most important straight, nothing absolutely nothing is better than having straight hair in a island where you don't see grown ups with curly or kinky hair, so I was a señorita a Mujercita.
Ironically I started to used my hair curly, it did curl because it was my first relaxer, done by my aunt in her back yard while doing laundry and smoking a cigarette with a relaxer made by her aunt in her back yard while doing laundry and smoking a cigarette, lol..I wasn't completely aware of the proper care of my new relaxed hair , so at the beginning I did a lot of wash-n-go, after a few months, and my second relaxer I stop it First because I want all my hair to stay in my head not on the floor and Second it didn't curl the way it used to.
For a few years my aunt or my Mom relaxed my hair; for some reason I liked the idea that a lot people on the street and guys loved my hair; Is that your natural hair? yes it is I have "good hair"
One day while my mom relaxed my hair the phone rang and my little sis picked it up: Hello....who? Daily?....ohhh.. she can't come to the fun she is having a relaxer......OMG, I wanted to die, you don't tell a guy you like that you relaxed your hair...:/
At that time I was 16 or 17 but I know some women that denied having relaxer, not only to friends, but to their hair stylist..I don't use relaxer, this is my natural straight hair,.I don't know why we feel the need to lie about this matter, Including me, I mean most of my life my hair was long and I took pretty good care of it, so constantly I have been asked if I relaxed my hair and I didn't lie or anything, but I came out with a name me and some friends used instead of relaxer " French Conditioner": hhahhhahha..
Have you ever denied a Relaxer or someone you know?

prices and details from Target.com
It was my intention to do a full review of all these products, but my hair didn't like the Curly pudding or the Babybuttercreme or the Curly Meringue, it felt rough and unmanageable, it seems that the ingredients on these products are not good FOR MY HAIR, that been said, I used the curly Meringue for my little one wavy hair and it did give some definition to her hair, "in every wavy is a curl waiting " and amazing result on a braid out.
As a lot of curly girls love the products and as I have a lot of them and my hair didn't like it I decided it to give it as a present to my Beautiful friend Indira and to complete the present combo I did a twist out on dry hair on her, and her hair loved it both the Curly Pudding and Baby Buttercreme, she used them before as a wash n go and she told me her hair felt wonderful.
On my older daughter the result were similar to mine.
We also tried the super Sweetback treatment
They claim it has growing properties for Naturally curly, kinky and wavy hair, they said the growing properties amplified when used during a steam treatment or under the dryer....
This treatment is very concentrate with a deep sweet non natural bubble gum smell, it did give my hair soft but I wasn't so crazy about it.. I have my doubt about the growing properties but I will continue to use it, and if I see any significant change I will let you know ;)
The consistency is very thick, a pudding like.
What I don't like about these products is that they do have a lot of chemical, fragrance and other ingredients that may be really good for some hair, but mine reject it, and I say for some, because here are some opinions about the product; for today on I will be adding to my own review so the review can be more fair to all of you hermosas.. ps. I didn't use the shampoo because it has Sulfate on it and I am living a sulfate free life..
Comments from Facebook
Patricia Tibere: Not sure if it helps out in the growth department as advertised, since I don't use it weekly, but I love the way my curls look and feel after using it. It melts the tangles away, and it's also a great DC to use before blowdrying or applying heat to hair.

Jennifer Cain: LOVE this product! I have also used their curly pudding and buttercreme. Curly pudding smells amazing and is great for styling my curls. I use the curly buttercreme when my strands are extra parched :-)

Evelyn Parham:This is currently the main product line I use. Everything works great for me (creme de la curl & creme, sweetback treatment, buttercremes, curly meringue). I'm testing the Rapid Recovery and Curly Pudding, but I prefer the Super Sweetback treatment so far...it's like a drug. I use it weekly. I like the Curly Meringue as my styler..I use it on soaking wet hair and I never get flakes. Enjoying my hair again, since using these products. It took me some time to figure out how to use the products, but once I figured it out, I discovered it's one of the best lines, I've used to date.

LaTricia Stoner: I feel like I am where you were Evelyn. I have purchased every product except quick curls. I like the results so far, but I feel like I'm not maximizing their potential. I'm not doing something right, but I'm gonna keep experimenting.

Their claim: Get hair radiantly clean without stripping natural oils. This Sulfate-free shampoo cleanses with a gentle lathering foam. High performance conditioning agents and wonderful oils - Castor, Avocado and Coconut blended with Shea Butter leave hair soft and manageable.
Results: it is a good Shampoo and it did leave my hair and my daughter's hair really soft, The smell is really strong, really vegan and herbal I imaging is the combination of Chamomile, Nestle and horsetail; I was ok with the smell, my little one didn't mind at all but my older daughter said it smell funny.
MAXIMUM CURL DEFINING CREAM Price: $16.00 Size: Approx 8 oz
Their claim: Moisture retention, elasticity, sulfate-free, curl definition, excellent feel, frizz resistance.
It has a very rich consistency and a little goes a long way..
Results: when I first apply the leave-in to my hair I was like ohhh noooo here we go, because I felt my hair rough, (I didn't used my oil mix before as I always do), I guess it was because the vegetable Glycerin on it, but any way I decided to continue with the application and at first I wasn't so happy with the results(wet) but as my hair started to dry my hair got bouncy, shinny and well define curls. It kept my hair frizz free and is really moisturize. The smell, again, is not one of my favorite, but if you love natural organic, vegan, green tea smell you will love this one.
I got excellent results on both of my daughters, well define, frizz free, manageable curls for days, my older daughter told me she didn't mind the smell to get such amazing curls, (lol) " she is more into sweet tropical scent"
