Mountain biking is not only an adventure, it is your beauty ally!! I’m trying more and more to include outdoor activities in my daily, healthy routine and biking has always been in my desire, and the farthest I have gone is indoor cycling. Muscle Soreness reliever / Alivio del dolor muscular

I know it’s summer and I should be all relaxed and laying on a beach in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, but that’s just in my dreams, the reality is that for most moms, summer means double the work. Kids are always hungry, recital rehearsals, swim practice and let’s not forget that we still have to work, right? well, the thing is that not only I feel overwhelmed with my children at home since I work from home, but I’ve been running and doing some circuit training at the park, while Liah is at swimming class, which is great, but my muscles are killing me, it is a combination of muscle soreness and stress. So I want to share with you this wonderful tip that is helping me relieve the soreness of my muscles and at the same time allowing me to take some me time.relieve_stress_post_work_out natural_hair_stress_relieve

Soak in Epsom salt nightly: Add 1 cup of lavender-scented Epsom salt to your warm bath, some bubbles, light a candle  and soak in for 10-20 minutes- Just add wine, lol. Epsom salt — actually magnesium sulfate — is one of the most versatile household products, with uses ranging from creating at-home spa treatments to soothing achy muscles to helping start or improve gardens. It’s been used therapeutically for hundreds of years, and it’s gaining a new generation of fans that are looking for a safe, easy and economical alternative. Epsom salt added relaxes your sore muscles, decreases inflammation by increasing the blood flow to your muscles and also prevents bloating, helping you get a flatter stomach. You can also soak a clean towel in warm water with Epsom salt and place it over the sore muscle.

The trick to keep your body and hair hydrated is drinking water, a lot of water, to help your body flush out toxins, which actually helps your hair grow faster and longer. Drinking a lot of water, specially during summer months will make you feel and look better from the inside out. In a past post I show you my favorite Infused water, that is a great way to actually drink more water, plus all it’s beauty benefits -read it here– But these ice cubes are super easy and another fun way to sass your water up with a melt of beauty.

These two ingredients have very powerful detox properties…You Just have to Brew a very strong cup of green tea of your choice, let it cool down, put it in a blender with a few inches of ginger, strain it and pour the mix into an ice cube tray to a firm consistency.

boat_ice_cubesPineapple ice cubes: These particular cubes are amazing for those days of the month when you feel bloat or after a long night of fun, lol I like to do my ice cubes with fresh homemade, unsweetened pineapple juice and just place it into an ice cube tray (you can find really cute ice cube tray mold at the 99 cent store)

healing_ice_cubesAloe Vera Ice Cubes: You may already know all the benefits associated with aloe vera juice, but you didn’t know you can make ice cubes with it and sass your water intake while giving your skin, hair and over all health the healing properties of Aloe Vera. Just buy pure Aloe Vera (Walmart has a great price for one gallon) pour it into ice cubes trays and freeze…When you area ready to drink your water just pop a few cubes and enjoy.

So while I was at the Grand Opening of the Walmart neighborhood market in Riverside, I got inspired by the great selection of fresh produce and created these 4 amazing infused water for you.
If you don’t know the concept of Walmart Neighborhood market, let me tell you that it is the faster, easier and more affordable way to shop for your everyday needs, it is not your traditional Walmart store (except for the same great, everyday low prices), Walmart neighborhood market in Riverside is smaller with a great selection of produce, amazing meat and amazing people.
These fresh Produce infused water are as easy and fresh as you see in pictures, so go to your Walmart store and grab: Rasberries,Blueberries, oranges, strawberries, mint, cucumbers, lime, lemon, you will also need mason jars (just because they look cute) water, straws and if you want to go a little extra on the benefit buy a gallon of Aloe Vera, Green tea and Honey.

Infused Water 1: Cut 2 strawberries, 1lime and about 10 blueberries. put it in a mason jar , fill with water and let it sit for a few hours
Infused Water 2: Cut 1 lemon, 1/2 cucumber and 1/4 cup pf mint. put it in a mason jar , fill with water and let it sit for a few hours
Infused Water 3: Cut 1 lemon, 1/4 cup of mint, 10 raspberries, put it in a mason jar , fill with water and let it sit for a few hours
Infused Water 4: Cut 1 lime, 1 Lemon, 1 orange,put it in a mason jar , fill with water and let it sit for a few hours
You can add aloe vera juice or green tea to any of these infused water if you wish, I particularly like to add these ingredients at the end when I am ready to drink it. Add honey if you wish, but be mindful about it, if you are trying to loose weight or just cut on sugar this may not be a good idea “moderation is the key”.Fresh_infused_water_#gowalmart

The UP wristband plugs into your phone via the Simple Sync connector. Having this beautiful fitness band that comes in different colors made me get up and move, it sets a movement goal (step) a day, this is easy for me to keep track on how much I am moving.  The first few days of wearing the band I was busy, so I spent almost the whole day at a computer and to my surprise I didn’t move more than 2,500 steps, so that alone was a wake up call, if by 6:00 pm my movement goal is not met, I will get up and move: a quick run,a walk around the block, something, anything.

I was surprised on how the band measured my sleeping behavior as well, it basically shows every little detail of my night. UP_band

The Up app is really cool, it has tips and you can sync to a few other fitness apps. I really like that you can also can keep track of your food and even upload your meal photos, I haven’t been very consistent with updating and tracking my meals on a daily basis, but that is definitely on my to do list, because we all know that 90 % of a healthy routine is done in the kitchen.
The band also comes in different cool colors; I choose black because ain’t nobody got time to keep a fitness band clean, and chicas I sweat and workout hard, lol.

4 things about Running I wish I’d known / 4 tips para convertirte en corredora

When I  started running, I didn’t like it so much, I couldn’t keep up my pace and breath for long, I had blisters, and my clothes were uncomfortable. Nobody ever told me these basic things or tricks to make my journey into becoming a runner, smother. If you are thinking of becoming a runner yourself, here are some points you should know to make it smooth and easier.running_natural_hair

  • It is not as hard as you think

As anything in life, consistency is the key  to success. When it comes to running, you will have to run at least 3 times a week to increase your endurance and strengthen your muscles. Please notice that you have to run at your own pace, but challenge yourself. When the distance feels fine or comfortable, you know you are ready to increase your milage.

  • The right gears.

A good sport bra is an item you can’t save on, specially if your boobs are not small. A cheap non sport bra is painful, uncomfortable and lets not get into the bouncing back and forward, in and out. Another very important item is a pair of sneakers. A good pair of well fitting running sneakers will increase your performances  and avoid blisters and pretty much make a big difference in how you feel and perfom.

  • Out is not the same as in

I used to go to the gym at least 5 days a week and getting on that treadmill for 4, 5 and even 6 miles was a piece a cake, and then one day I decided that I wanted to run outside, why? well, it is free, I can do it any time etc, etc, etc. And to my surprise, I wasn’t able to pass 2 miles on my good days. The uneven surface of the outside, plus the weather condition was harder than I thought. But as I said before “consistency is the key to success”.

  • There is an app for that 

There are a few running apps available for your smart phone, but I am totally in love with nike plus run; it is free, it tracks the distance I run with a GPS, charts my workout time, pace, calories burned, and you have a coach available if you want to follow a running routine; this is extremely helpful for me, because it motivated me to get up and run.
