Detox Drink: Sweet Spinach | Detox de Espinaca

sweet spinach detox

As I set the clock forward and get in the spring mood, it is a great idea to start spring cleaning from the inside out with a detox drink to start fresh and kick start the transition into that bikini body. I am a great fan of smoothies specially when I am on the run. I chopped up all of the ingredient the night before and in the morning, I just had to blend and go, giving me no excuse to stop at a drive through. This detox drink is not only great to detox your body, but all the ingredients help to aim towards hair growth.

Detoxification enhances the body’s natural cleansing process, allowing it to build better defenses against illnesses and diseases. It also helps to stimulate blood circulation, preventing clotting.

Before I started my body detox, I had to clean out my kitchen and throw away a blender that wasn’t delivering the consistency I wanted in my smoothies. I don’t know about you, but I hate when I find big chunks of fruits or vegetables in my drink, that is why they call it a smoothie, right? it’s supposed to be smooth and easy to drink. So I switched to Nutri Ninja Auto-iQ Compact System that includes Smooth Boost Technology, allowing you to truly customize your drink consistency.  High-Performance blending combined with the blender’s high-performance blades powers through frozen ingredients and ice for cool smoothies and shakes, breaking down whole fruits and veggies for refreshing, full-bodied nutritious juices.
My favorite features are that it comes with 2 regular tritan nutri Ninja Cups with Sip & seal Lids that allow me to take my smoothie on the go, and the double wall stainless steel cup which keeps my daughter’s frozen smoothies colder for up to 4 hours. It also comes with a blending cup with a lid, chopping blade, dough hook & pro extractor blades to make my sofritos and salsas. Nutri Ninja Auto-iQ Compact System

Women’s best friend | el mejor aliado de la mujer

Women’s best friend | el mejor aliado de la mujer

natural remedies for menstrual discomfortWhen you heard the frase “women’s best friend” you may think of diamonds, and don’t get me wrong, who wouldn’t want diamonds? I know I do , but sometimes -that time of the month- not even the best diamond make us women feel good. That time of the month when cramps and discomfort knocks on our door, our best friend is not as valuable as diamonds in dollar form or as beautiful in color, but effective to make us feel like one. I am talking about Raspberry leaf tea.

Raspberry leaf is rich in iron, calcium, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, potassium, selenium, silicon, and sulfur, it also contains vitamins B1, B3, C, D, and E, malic acid, citric acid, pectin, and several essential oils. But it’s high content of tannin is what makes raspberry leaf our best friend. Tannin has amazing astringent qualities, which helps reduce some of our worst conditions such as excessive menstrual bleeding and cramping.

Raspberry leaf is also used to increase fertility by strengthening the uterine wall while relaxing smooth muscles in the uterus, which improves chances of implantation and prevents miscarriage.
Raspberry leaf tea is amazing hot or cold and I particularly love it for the teenagers as it is a natural way to relieve discomfort.

Top 10 tips to living a healthier life|10 consejos para una vida saludable

Walmart.Disclosuretips to living a healthier lifeWant to get on the fast track to a healthier life? America’s Biggest Health Fair at a Walmart store near you this October 10th is here to help you get the motivation and information you need to start a healthier you.  The event is this October 10th and to find a Walmart store click HERE to get free health screenings, health insurance education, product demonstrations, and gift bags.  And in honor of this initiative, I want to share with my top 10 tips to living a healthier life.fall food for healthy hair

  1. Use more seasonal food. This is one of the best ways to get the nutrients your body needs. Fall bring a bunch of my favorite vegetables like kale, sweet potatoes, carrots, and onions into your diet. Their naturally sweet flavor helps to reduce sugar cravings.
◊Kale: packed with antioxidants, calcium, iron, vitamin A and C. In fact, this green leaf has seven times the beta-carotene of broccoli.
◊Onions and garlic: An excellent source of vitamin B6, garlic also has vitamin C and loads of minerals like phosphorous, calcium, and manganese. Many studies have shown that garlic is helpful for improving cholesterol levels, reducing blood pressure and fighting infection.
◊Sweet Potatoes: High in fiber and beta-carotene, sweet potatoes also boost vitamin A, complex B vitamins, potassium, and calcium. Sweet potatoes also contain important anti-inflammatory plant compounds like quercetin.water benefit of hair
  2. Drink more water: we need water to fucntion well and most of us don’t drink enough. Our body needs it to function well, remove toxins, and transport nutrients and oxygen all over our body.
  3. Take a 10 Minute Time Out – as women, we want to do it all, but trust me when I say this, it is ok to take some me time. A ten minute time out can free your mind and prevent your mind from getting fatigued.
  4.  Get a massage. .Massages have been shown to be effective in reducing mental and physical stress, lowers the level of cortisol, and increases the levels of serotonin and dopamine.
  5. Go Juicing. This is my new addition; it is simple, easy to make, perfect on the go, and most importantly FAST. I add my favorite fruits and vegetables in a blender and I am good to go. The best part is that I am consuming all the fibers in the fruits and vegetables and that makes me feel satisfied longer and aids my digestion.
  6. Prepare your meals. This is by far the best healthy tip ever, when you prepare your meals at home, you have the control on what’s in it. With so many ideas on Pinterest you have no excuses, no time to cook? Set a day to plan your meals and cook, the rest is to put them in containers, label them, and eat them when you’re hungry.
  7. Love you more. When you love yourself you start to make better and healthier choices for you, because you love you just the way you are and it is only a matter of getting better.how to love yourself
  8. Stay active. A few times a week, every day, this is up to you and your schedule. But “get up and move” , walk, dance, swim, run, go on a bike ride, something is more than nothing, exercising more will keep you away from the doctor’s office.
  9. Get your beauty sleep. People that don’t get enough sleep tend to eat more. Get enough sleep and you won’t snack as much. Also remember that while you sleep, your cells regenerate themselves. Getting a good sleep will help you with premature aging of your skin.
  10. Surrender yourself with positivity. This my friend, will keep the most important muscle of your body in good health, “your brain”. Negative people drain your body and mind super fast, you don’t need that, you need people that cheer you up and fill your life with joy and positive thoughts.

Coconut water popsicle| Paletas de agua de coco

Coconut water popsicle| Paletas de agua de coco

This is part of a sponsored campaign with DiMe Media and Dole Packaged Foods. However, all opinions expressed are my own.homemade popsicle

With the temperature increasing we crave for something refreshing and with a perfect hint of sweet that won’t make us feel guilty like these delicious coconut water popsicle. The thirst quenching coconut with a delicious and sweet flavor of Dole frozen fruit, is a great alternative to plain water when you’re trying to stay hydrated in summer days . Simply combine coconut water with agave nectar- this is optional but I highly recommend because it will help your sugar craving in a healthy way- in a popsicle mold add Dole frozen fruit of your choice ( I am using wildly nutritious mixed berries) that is ideal to incorporate in to different recipes that will keep you cool during the summer, such as this popsicle and smoothies. Also great for toppings, baking, salads, or simply as a healthy snack, all-natural fruit with no sugar added. Add the coconut water and freeze for 2-3 hours. Run hot water over the outside of the molds to loosen the popsicle and enjoy coconut water popsicle

Melon ice cubes |Bolitas de hielo de Melon

Melon ice cubes |Bolitas de hielo de Melon

Consideration was provided by Target.
The  2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup will be this July 7-26, the premier soccer event involving nations from North, Central America, and the Caribbean. This is one of the main events to get together and echar relajo because soccer games are the perfect opportunity to gather with family and friends and poke fun at the opposing team.

For these time of celebration, my friend and family always opt for BBQ; everybody brings a dish, mostly rice and salad and I am always in charge of the drinks. At every get-together, I like to impress my friends, so for this year’s gold cup games, I will be serving a fruit spritzer. This drink is great for the summer and you can basically mix it with non-alcoholic or alcoholic beverages. We all know that it’s not only about the food or the drinks, it’s all about the presentation and high quality ingredients. So, I went to Target to buy everything I needed for this easy but refreshing spritzer.

fruit spritzerIngredients:
Your favorite melons (watermelons, cantaloupe, honeydew melon, white honeydew melon, etc.)
You can also add grapes or basically any fruit you like.

Rinse the melons, cut them in half, remove the seeds, and with a melon baller, scoop out the melon balls from the fruit (you can also use an ice-cream scoop to make bigger balls).
Use a flat plate or baking tray and cover with wax paper, then arrange the melon balls on it.
Freeze the melon balls for a few hours until frozen. Remove them from the freezer and transfer them to a freezer bag. Place the bag in the freezer until ready to use.

bebidas saludable para el verano lemon ball ice cubes summer drinkPlace the melon ball ice cubes in a glass, add sparkling water, soda water, or sparkling wine. This drink is not only beautiful, but the fruit gives a delicious hint of taste to the water, soda, or sparkling wine, that will have all your friends shouting Golazo.

No matter which team you are rooting for, Target has all your needs to be a winner.

Spirulina PopCorn | Palomitas de Maiz saludable de espirulina

Acorn DisclosureLast week, Netflix made an early release of Orange is the New Black and for the past two seasons, I don’t feel ashamed to say that I couldn’t leave my house or my couch until I finished all 13 episodes. We all know that watching tv sometimes -all the time – makes us hungry, and in my journey to add healthy foods and snacks to my diet, I started a while ago to make my own popcorn (no more microwave). I got this healthy popcorn idea from my blogger friend Fernanda from CookandMove.com , she advised me that the first step was to buy a popcorn maker, so I did and ever since then, I make my own popcorn for me and my family.

spirulina popcornThis spirulina popcorn is the best way to have a healthy snack while you are watching your favorite movie or show at home. It is as easy as it can be: make your popcorn and mix with spirulina powder to taste. I like to add garlic salt and olive oil (this is optional) healthy popcorn palomitas de maiz saludable healthy snacks

Daylight saving beauty tips/ Trucos de belleza para el cambio de horario.

Daylight saving beauty tips/ Trucos de belleza para el cambio de horario.

I can’t believe October is almost over and that next Sunday, November 2nd, our clocks fall back an hour, giving us an extra hour of beauty sleep. Get the most out of your beauty routine on this Daylight Savings Time with these beauty tips to stay energized, motivated and ensure that you are ready when summer comes back around.

nourishing_sleeping_facial_mask

  1. Get the most out of your skincare routine this Daylight Savings Time with advanced, overnight moisturization from Korres Sleeping Facials. Greek Yoghurt Advanced Nourishing Sleeping Facial – A weightless soufflé powered by super-charged proteins that melts into skin and works overnight, (Available at Sephora.com, $45).  Wild Rose + Vitamin C Advanced Brightening Sleeping Facial – This overnight facial-in-a-jar is a breakthrough in beauty sleep. More than a mask, more than a night cream, it contains the Korres Phos Compound, a proprietary blend including a brightening agent and stabilized vitamin C. Day after day, week after week, uneven tone and dark spots will continuously improve. (Available at Sephora.com, $48)
  2. Soak up some Sun with some Vitamin D!! Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin produced when the sun converts a chemical in your skin into a form of vitamin D, which is then further converted into active vitamin D. Vitamin D is sometimes called the “sunshine vitamin” because it is naturally produced in the body on exposure to sunlight. Vitamin D plays a role in the condition and health of our skin and of course having healthy skin on your scalp can prevent hair loss and stimulate a healthy hair growth. Vitamin D helps reduce hair loss because of its ability to stimulate the hair follicle. Vitamin D also is responsible for activating the cells within the hair shaft. The healthier the cells, the healthier the hair shaft.
  3. 30 Minutes of Cardio a day!  I know the change of weather urges us to skip workout and cuddle in our couch and the energy levels behind to drop, but a cardio exercise can increase our energy because it increases the heart rate and the amount of oxygen in our body. Regular cardiovascular and aerobic exercise can promote hair growth by reducing the amount of cortisone present in the body. Lower levels of the cortisone hormone will help hair grow faster and fuller.

With Daylight Savings Time in a few days, how are you going to keep those urges to forego your summer health and beauty maintenance as the summer blues inch your way?

World’s best seafood for healthy hair / El mejor alimento para tu cabello

World’s best seafood for healthy hair / El mejor alimento para tu cabello

world's_best_hair_power_foodBeauty from the inside out is the most important thing for women, not only for long shiny hair, but for overall health. This is why it’s so important to eat healthy foods that are rich in nutrients and vitamins, and today I will be talking about scallops, a wonderful marine bivalves that live in shells. Scallops are found both in oceans and bay water, but the bay water is smaller in size.

Scallops have a very high nutrient content, with rich quantities of potassium. A potassium deficiency, also called hypokalemia, can actually cause your hair to fall out. High-salt diets cause excessive sodium accumulation around the hair follicles, preventing the absorption of vital nutrients required for healthy hair, this causes hair loss. Increasing potassium intake will remove excess sodium and eliminate the potassium deficiency and resulting hair loss.

Scallops also are rich in selenium and magnesium. Selenium can utilize foods that contain protein and boost hair growth. They can be used to treat many hair problems as gray hair, hair loss, dandruff, etc.  Deficit of magnesium in your body will affect your hair growth and prompt hair loss, hair follicles need this supplement to create strong hair follicles and hair strands which will stay intact for a long time.

Scallops are also an excellent source of, vitamin B12. Vitamin B12 promotes healthy hair growth by helping in the formation of red blood cells. The visible part of hair (the shaft) is composed primary of keratin, a fibrous form of protein. At the base of each hair follicle, tiny blood vessels connect to the root of each hair strand. Red blood cells serve the purpose of carrying oxygen to the living portion of the hair strands. Without adequate oxygen, your hair typically won’t be able to sustain healthy growth.
